The insane quest for "quantifying" quality!
I'm not sure who influenced who in the end but I remember from studies that the reason why they inject dye to apples, was because consumers usually picked 'perfect' apples
I am not sure if they inject dyes but they use controlled/modified atmospheric techniques to ripen their skin artificially (color-wise)
Takes time to seek quality AND you have to know first what to look - whether an apple or a potential mate!
